Helping Your Piano Reach Its Highest Elevation

Here at Elevation Piano Works, centered in the Western Slope of the beautiful state of Colorado, we provide services to your piano so that you can experience your piano at its fullest. A piano that isn’t in tune, has parts not working, or the mechanism is sloppy tends to get neglected which is highly unfortunate. But a piano that is working at its finest can give off lasting memories and enjoyment for you and your loved ones.

If you need any service of any kind for your piano, book your appointment today!

Why do pianos go out of tune?

Temperature and humidity - The tuning pins are connected to the pinblock, a dense piece of wood. Changes in temperature and humidity causes the wood to expand or contract moisture. More specifically, with high humidity and temperature, the wood will expand and cause more pressure on the strings, causing the notes to go rise/go sharp. Inversely, in dry and cold areas, the wood will contract, causing the strings to loosen. This will make the pitch drop/go flat.

Age - As the piano ages or doesn’t get tuned often, the components of the piano will wear down a little and cause the piano to not hold its tune as well. The main component to be affect are the pinblock which tends to lose moisture over the years, causing the tuning pins to loosen and thus lose its tune over the years.

Frequent Playing - When you strike a note, the key is connected to a hammer which hits the string. The impact of the hammer to the strings adds stress, so pianos that are played more often need to be tuned more often.

Location - Temperature and humidity are a part of this, since many neglected pianos are in garages or outside. Being in conditions like those will definitely cause the piano to not hold its tune or even be in great shape after. Pianos by windows are also more affected by these environmental changes during the night.

Rough Tuning
